“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with Me.” Revelation 3:20 NIV
“Knock! Knock!”, “Who’s there?”, “Jesus”, “Jesus who?”, “Exactly… ‘Jesus who’.” The Laodicean church that had become useless. It had become smug. This is the exact opposite of saving faith, isn’t it? This church had rejected its neediness. Their need for Jesus, forgiveness, eternal life. This can happen to any believer. Those who once came as spiritual beggars, as those who were spiritually thirsty, as lost sheep in need of rescue, as spiritually sick and in need of healing, can become smug. Becoming satisfied and secure and sufficient in something other than the person and finished work of Christ. We can become smug! With all the courage and honesty, we can muster, let’s ask ourselves this, “Where is Jesus? When we look around our lives, where is Jesus?” No, not on paper. In practice. In our priorities/pursuits. Where is Jesus? Might He be on the outside, knocking even now? Have we become satisfied, secure, and self-sufficient because of some kind of worldly prosperity? If we hear Him knocking, let us be shaken and sobered by the knock, because it means Jesus is on the ‘outside’. Also be overjoyed by that knock, because it means that Jesus is eager to come in, and be with us, and eat with us. Jesus graciously offered the Laodicean church everything, both the richness of His provision, and the richness of His presence. He offers us those same things or have we forgotten the nourishment of fellowship with Jesus.
PRAYER THOUGHT
Lord Jesus, may we never forget the nourishment of fellowship with You.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Lord Jesus, thank You for being so eager to come into our lives, to be with us, and eat with us. May we never forget the nourishment of fellowship we have with You. AMEN
