SEE YOUR KING

“Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”                      Zechariah 9:9 NIV

Ever since the Fall (Genesis 3), there was an expectation that God would come and rescue us from sin. Think about the last time you had to fix something that had been turned into a complete mess by someone else. We see that disaster, and we know that we are the one who must clean it up, straighten it out, and restore everything to its proper place. We’re upset. We’re angry. We’re mumbling or grumbling because now we must spend hours of effort fixing that catastrophe when our time could have been better used elsewhere. Too often, we think God is the same. Because our reaction is to be angry and upset, we believe God’s only reaction is to be angry and upset. We provoke His anger because of our sin. Our sins have broken His creation and created havoc and chaos. Harmed our neighbour and others. Broken our fellowship with Him. When Jesus rides into Jerusalem the first day of Holy Week, He is coming to fix the mess we have made of this world by our sin. He doesn’t come riding a war horse and leading an army. He doesn’t come to annihilate everyone. He comes on a rescue mission. He comes to save and deliver us from sin, death, and the devil. He comes as the humble king in meekness. He comes to be rejected. He comes to take our sin. He comes to be beaten, mocked, and scorned. He comes to be led outside Jerusalem. He comes to be crucified. He comes to suffer the wrath of God against our sin. He comes in love!

PRAYER THOUGHT

Lord thank You for coming to rescue us from the mess of sin.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Thank You Lord Jesus for coming to save and deliver us from sin, death, and the devil. Coming as the humble king in meekness. Coming to be rejected. Coming to take our sin. Coming to suffer the wrath of God against our sin. Coming in love. AMEN
