On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” John 20:19 NIV
If we’re dealing with deep loneliness, sorrow, and loss, that’s the room which the Risen Jesus enters. If we are locked in a house of fear, confusion, or darkness, that is the place in which Jesus stands. If illness, old age, disability, or uncertainty are facts of our lives, that’s the place in which Jesus shows up. If we are feeling lost, betrayed, disappointed, overwhelmed, that’s the house Jesus enters. The disciples were behind locked doors. But this is their starting place of their story. The great tragedy would have been if the disciples refused to unlock the doors to get out the house. But they did not stay behind locked doors. What are the doors that are locked in your life? What are the things that have kept you stuck in the same place? It happened twice that the disciples are in the same house behind the same locked doors and Jesus shows up. He stands in the midst of them. The walls and the locked doors of their house could not keep Jesus out. The walls and locked doors of our houses will not keep Him out. He steps into the midst of our house, through the locked doors, breathing peace and life into us. Let us take a deep breath, of His peace and life, filling us and enlivening us. Giving us the hope, courage, and strength to unlock and open the doors of our lives and then get out of the house.
PRAYER THOUGHT
Lord Jesus, thank You for entering the locked doors of our lives.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Lord Jesus, thank You for entering into the locked doors of our houses, to set us free to unlock the doors of our lives and let Your resurrected life flow through us. AMEN
