LIVING BY THE SPIRIT

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”        Galatians 5:25 NIV

Have you ever watched a marching band in action? The way they move in precision can be mesmerizing. Every step is calculated, every movement is synchronized. But what if just one person decided to go their own way, it would throw everything off. Walking in step requires focus, trust, and unity. Paul reminds us to keep in step with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit isn’t some distant, far away force. He gives us life! He gives us direction. When we accept Christ, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in us, guiding us, convicting us, and empowering us. He is like a GPS, it’s always there and ready to guide us. But it’s only effective if we turn it on and follow its directions. Too often, we acknowledge the Holy Spirit’s presence but fail to engage with Him. We take detours and then wonder why we feel lost. When we walk in step with the Spirit, it changes us from the inside out. Galatians 5:22-23 outlines the fruit of the Spirit: “Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” These aren’t things that we manufacture; they are the evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives. Walking in step with the Spirit is not without challenges. We face distractions and temptations. But the Holy Spirit equips us to overcome them. Walking in step with the Holy Spirit is a journey, not a destination. It requires daily surrender, attentiveness, and trust. But the reward is a life marked by peace, purpose, and fruitfulness.
