KNOWING IS NOT ENOUGH

“Come,” He replied, “and you will see.” So they went and saw where He was staying, and they spent that day with Him. It was about four in the afternoon.       John 1:39 NIV

Andrew and John were the first two disciples Jesus called to follow Him. Before becoming disciples of Jesus, they were disciples of John the Baptist who came to testify concerning Jesus. These men knew about Jesus because of John’s testimony. But knowing about Him was not enough. They wanted to meet Jesus personally, to see Him for themselves. When John the Baptist pointed to Jesus, declaring, “Look, the Lamb of God,” Andrew and John acted immediately. They boldly followed Jesus without hesitation, showing us that hearing about Jesus is just the beginning. The fundamental transformation begins when we seek Him personally. As Andrew and John followed Jesus, He turned and asked them a simple yet profound question: “What do you want”? They responded to Jesus’ question with one of their own—“Where are you staying?” revealing their desire to know Him more deeply. Jesus didn’t question their motives or tell them to come back later. Instead, without hesitation, He invited them to “Come and see.” Because they asked, they spent the day with Jesus. Jesus’ question, “What do you want?” wasn’t just for Andrew and John. It’s for all of us. He asks us to reflect on our desires and motivations. What are we genuinely seeking by following Him? Andrew and John wanted to know if Jesus was truly the Messiah. Accepting His invitation to “Come and see,” they found their answer, and it changed their lives forever. Have we accepted His invitation?

PRAYER THOUGHT

Lord, change our lives as we come to see You.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, as we come and see, let our lives be transformed forever as we discover, like Andrew and John, that You truly are the Messiah. AMEN
