“We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives.” Colossians 1:9 NIV
What are the characteristics of this knowledge? It is wisdom and spiritual understanding. The word “wisdom” is a general term which implies the capacity and faculty for adapting the best means to bring about the best ends in this spiritual understanding. Spiritual understanding really means “outing two and two together”, comparing ideas and principles, for the purpose of adopting the best in any given course of action. The importance and necessity of wisdom and spiritual understanding can never be underestimated. Christian wisdom, Christian understanding, Christian perception in the thousand and one things of life is one of the greatest necessities and blessings in our lives as believers. How many errors could be avoided in our personal lives and in the life of the church. How many wanderings would be kept in check by means of this spiritual wisdom. Still more, how much joy would be experienced and how much genuine service be given, if you and I were always saying and doing the right thing, at the right time, in the right way. None of us will ever have the full knowledge of His will, nor will we mature in experience if the Word of God is not part of our daily, definite, direct study and meditation. Are we being intentional about focusing on the Word of God in our daily living?
Lord, give us a thirst for Your Word so that we know Your will.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Lord, we confess that none of us will ever have the full knowledge of Your will, nor will we mature in experience if Your Word is not part of our daily, definite, direct study and meditation. By Your Spirit, give us a thirst for Your Word so that we know Your will. AMEN
