SEEKING LEADS TO PRAISE & WORSHIP

“I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.”          Psalm 63:2-5 NIV

David recalled how his soul was thrilled when he went into the sanctuary, the holy tabernacle where God’s grandeur was so splendidly displayed. Time and again, he had witnessed God’s power and glory when God’s people focused on Him in worship. How he longed to enter God’s courts once again, to bask in the radiant glory of God’s holy presence! As he envisioned the delight of being in the Lord’s company, David considered one of the strongest reasons for worshipping God: His lovingkindness toward us. Lovingkindness is God’s covenant love, His mercy, His steadfast love. David judged God’s unfailing love as being better than life itself, “or to put it another way, it is to begin to live.” Meditating on God’s love moved David to praise and glorify God openly and audibly with his lips. As he gave honour and glory to God, he would lift his hands in praise of God’s great name. David committed to praise God because God satisfied his soul with marrow and fatness. More modern translations use the words “fat and rich food” (ESV) and “the richest feast” (NLT) (verse 5). David was saying that God satisfied the cravings of his spirit the way a large meal would satisfy him physically, until he wanted nothing further. More than that, the experience was delightful to the taste, like a feast of the richest, most exquisite foods. David declares that God abundantly provides for us, meeting our deepest needs. Where? Even in the darkest times of our lives and in the most difficult circumstances, He gives us a joyful song.
