PROVEN

“You let people ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.”              Psalm 66:12 NIV

God uses trials to prove us. God permitted Satan to test Job to prove the strength of his faith and the sincerity of his love for the Lord (Job 1:6-12). God also tested Abraham to prove his faith and obedience (Genesis 22:1-19). Scripture encourages us to rejoice when we face various trials because they work in our lives to build character and produce patience (James 1:2-4). Scripture also says that Jesus learned obedience through suffering – a fascinating yet mind-boggling truth (Hebrews 5:8). If this was true for God’s perfect, sinless Son, how much more so for us who have a rebellious nature! We can also rejoice in trials because God bountifully blesses us when we endure them. Scripture records how God blessed both Abraham and Job for their faithfulness throughout their trials. A special crown is promised to those who love the Lord and are faithful when they are severely tried (James 1:12). During our time on this earth, we may be required to walk through fire and flood. But remember this, we do not walk through them alone. God has promised His comfort and strength along with His very presence throughout our trials (Isaiah 43:2). The fires and floods of tribulation will not overtake us. Like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, we may go into the fiery furnace, but we will surely come out. While we are there, we will find the glorious presence of God’s Son with us (Daniel 3:21-27).

PRAYER THOUGHT

Lord, the proving of our faith is never easy, but You are always present.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Thank You, Almighty God, that the fires and floods of tribulation will not overtake us. Like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, we may go into the fiery furnace, but we will surely come out. While we are there, we will find Your glorious presence with us. AMEN
