“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV
We should sow with joy. The Bible says that God loves a cheerful giver. This is because God is a cheerful giver. He gave us His one and only begotten Son, with love and joy, that we might have life and life in all its fullness. Our attitude is more important than the amount that we give. If giving makes us miserable, or if someone tries to force us to give, it is better for us not to give! We must give with faith. We must expect a harvest when we sow. We read in James 5:7, “Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.” It is very sad if we do not expect a harvest when we sow. Can you imagine a farmer who sows seed in a field and does not expect a harvest! We must sow with patience. Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” There is always a period of time between sowing and reaping. We often have to do the right thing for a long time before we see the harvest. It takes time for the seed to produce the fruit. We must sow in secret. Matthew 6:4 says, “. . . so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” This applies to our giving, our praying and our good deeds. The greatest harvest comes when no one knows what we do in secret. Jesus said that our left hand should not know what our right hand does!
PRAYER THOUGHT
Lord, let our sowing be done in secret so that only You see it and we are blessed.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Thank You, Father, that the greatest harvest comes when no one knows what we do in secret. For You said, Lord Jesus, that our left hand should not know what our right hand does! AMEN
