A NEW TEACHER

“No longer will they teach their neighbour, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord.”          Jeremiah 31:34 NIV

There is a new teacher in the New Covenant, the presence of the Holy Spirit dwelling in our lives as believers in Jesus Christ, as Saviour and Lord. No longer do we need to say to one another “Know the Lord”. In the Old Covenant, one was born into a relationship with God; in the New Covenant, from the moment of us being born again into the Kingdom of God, the Holy Spirit places a hunger for God’s Word within us, writing it upon our hearts so that we will be His people and He will be our God. It is an inner communion with God. The indwelling Holy Spirit interprets His Word in our hour of need. We are to expect Him to break in upon our conscience as we read the Scriptures and pray. It is about intimate fellowship. It is not about knowing theology, or an orthodox creed, but knowing Him personally and abiding in His presence and He in us. Do you know Him personally? This is the New Covenant in which we are to live. Why are we afraid to sit in the quietness and in the silence and meditate on His great attributes? Why are we so prone to doing all the talking instead of silently, actively listening? When we have an attitude of waiting and listening in His presence, He comes. God waits until we are quiet enough to receive His Word that He may make Himself known to us more perfectly. When we wait upon Him in stillness, we find His law written upon our heart and we obey Him.

PRAYER THOUGHT

Teach me, Lord, to wait in quietness so I may hear You speak to me.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Holy Spirit, as we wait in quietness to receive Your Word, thank You that You make Yourself known to us more perfectly. Teach us to wait upon You in stillness so that we find Your law written upon our hearts and we obey You. AMEN
